Swiss Finance Academy makes a deliberate effort to build a strong sense of community. Students are assigned to teams to work through projects, cases, and lecture materials. Each project group has four to eight members who deliver assignments by stated deadlines, through group study, strategy sessions, analysis, and write-up. Some of those sessions run five to seven hours straight before a deadline.
Presenting to clients and analysing case studies in front of colleagues is an integral part of the training. These pitch books and deal-team simulations mirror the beauty contests and negotiations investment banks run with clients, investors, and competitors.
The high-energy colleagues and team-based environment keep everyone productive and focused. Most students get little sleep before major deadlines and exams, and catch up at the weekend: a measure of both the intensity and the camaraderie.

"The independent research projects were intellectual and challenging. In less than two days packed with lectures, readings, and preparation for the final restructuring deal, we prepared a detailed presentation to potential investors about a hybrid security we were unfamiliar with. With limited time and resources, a scenario not different from the daily investment banking routine, we made careful assumptions, drew logical conclusions, qualified our opinions where needed, and presented to a group of experts. Many valuable lessons were learned."
At the welcome dinner you get to know the entire class. Informal networking follows, with executive coaches and faculty guiding students to build as many meaningful connections as possible.
Sightseeing, trips, cultural performances, athletics, fine arts, and team dinners create the conditions for genuine relationships. Friends, roommates, and classmates become important resources long after graduation, and the networks built over shared meals, late-night study sessions, and weekend excursions often prove as valuable as the formal training itself.
It is common for family members and friends of alumni to attend in later years. A sibling who has attended recommends the program only when they strongly believe it will be invaluable, and all things being equal, we may give some preference to family members in admissions.
