Building models and pitch books for different areas within a bank. Learning about differences in pricing data, transaction models (e.g. FI comps, vs. M&A comps).

We discuss technical, algorithmic and fundamental aspects of trading. We also design risk constraints in an excel and discuss limits, maximum draw-down, diversification and other principles.

Starting with core accounting concepts in excel, and moving to spreadsheet modeling on usefulness of comparables based analysis in an M&A transaction. Conclusion is that the discounted cash flow based valuation was absolutely useless in the last night's case.

FAQs for two-week summer program

Q. What happens at Swiss Finance Academy's Pathfinder Program?
A. We work intensively for 2 days, exclusively with undergraduate and graduate science and liberal arts students (non-business majors), to get their skills up to scratch for careers on Wall Street and in the City of London. The goal is to make them competitive with the world's top recruiters, expose them to a wide range of career options worldwide, and provide them the tools for an entrepreneurial career.

Q. How can I get the skills and training you provide?​ What are the fees?
A. Apply online for our next cycle if you qualify. The fee is listed inside the application portal.


For the Pathfinder program, you qualify if you are studying sciences, arts, other (non-business) fields at the undergraduate or graduate level. For the program you do NOT qualify if you are pursuing a degree in business or accounting at any level, or have any prior business background for over one year.

​Q. Which schools are target schools?​
A. Students attend from the US and around the world and we do not target any specific colleges or universities.

Q. What's the age range of the students you seek in the Pathfinder program?​
A. Most students are between the ages of 18 and 24. We discourage students over the age of 25 from applying to this program.

Q. Do I have to be a citizen of any specific country or countries?​
A. No. While most students attend from the US, Canada, the UK and Switzerland, we welcome students from around the world. The language of instruction is only English.

Q. Who may apply to the Pathfinder program?
A. We accept applications from college / university freshmen through seniors. We also accept candidates 1-2 years graduated from college pursuing advanced degrees in non-business fields, or working in non-business careers.

 

Undergraduate business majors, MBAs and graduates with business experience will not be accepted to this particular program because we are focused on talented non-business students only and wish to create the best experience for them during these two days.

Q. When should I apply for the program? How do I pay the fees?
A. If you qualify, we suggest you apply as soon as possible so that you and we can make your arrangements. Please visit the application page here.

Q. What do I need to submit for admission to the Program?
A. As described above, please submit these two items:
1) Online Application.
2) Applicable fee.

Q. Should I have a minimum GPA?
A. Regarding the program, although there is no minimum GPA requirement.

Q. When will I know if everything is okay with my enrollment form and I am able to attend Swiss Finance Academy?
A. Decisions are made on a rolling basis shortly after you submit your application form, and typically you should hear back in less than one month.

Q. Do you offer financial aid?

A. The Institute offers limited financial aid to students with a GPA of 3.90 or higher with demonstrated need. Upon receiving an official transcript sent directly by the registrar, along with a letter of financial need from their professor, school or university.


Dean's Office Support: United States students with diverse backgrounds and/or good academic records have had success asking their Dean's Offices to sponsor some or all of the program fees. Schools reap the benefits of Pathfinder students' increased effectiveness at school and beyond.

Employer Support: Students with internships or job offers frequently have success seeking employers support in helping defray cost of training programs' fees. Employers reap the benefits of Pathfinder students' ability to hit the ground running when they start the job.

Q. Do you accept business majors or MBAs?
A. No, we do not accept them to our two day Pathfinder program. We may offer other programs suitable for them. We do accept Economics majors from colleges and universities to the Pathfinder program.

Q. What types of students attend the Pathfinder Program?
A. The Institute's students are from colleges and universities around the world. Students want to gain the competitive edge in their careers, particularly their business careers, but acquiring and honing their business, financial and management skills. 

Q. Will I have free time during the Pathfinder Program?
A. Your schedule will be packed full of study groups, lectures, projects and career events. We are committed to providing you a rich experience and your time outside during the days of the program or the workshop will be very limited.

Q. Do you provide meals?
A. No, but there are plenty of dining options just steps away from the classroom facility.

Q. Do you provide housing?
A. No, but students have a range of housing options, ranging from Airbnb guest houses to hotels and shared rooms.

Q. Can I receive course credit for attending Swiss Finance Academy's Pathfinder Program?
A. Please discuss this with your academic adviser at your home university.
